CHINOoK: Cascadia Hydrothermal circulation IN Oceanic (K)rust
The CHINOoK project is an NSF-funded experiment that includes a 24-day research cruise offshore Washington and Oregon aboard the R/V Langseth.
The objective is collect seafloor heat flux data and high-resolution 2D multichannel seismic reflection data along transects crossing basaltic basement highs (e.g., seamounts) and propagator wakes. This will allow us to determine the thermal effects of fluid circulation in the oceanic crust entering the Cascadia subduction zone.
